What Is "Twee"?

Twee is a word we, as well as others, have used to describe our sound. But what does it mean exactly?

Something that is sweet, almost to the point of being sickeningly so. As a derogatory descriptive, it means something that is affectedly dainty or quaint, or is way too sentimental.

In American English it often refers to a type of simple sweet pop music, but in British English it is used much more widely for things that are nauseatingly cute or precious. It comes from the way the word sweet sounds when said in baby talk.
Belle and Sebastian are the Beatles of twee.
If you really care to know about the history of twee, Pitchfork has this great article.

Some other bands that have been described as twee include: The Pastels, Tiger Trap, Belle and Sebastian, and Camera Obscura

K Records is a good label to look into for even more twee style bands.
Fun Fact: K Records was founded by Calvin Johnson, frontman of Beat Happening, which is considered another leading twee band!

...there were four young people who just wanted to ROCK! But they couldn't because they weren't angsty enough. So they started a twee pop band instead! Thus began the tale of Catnaps.

Just kidding.

We're an indie pop band from Philadelphia looking to let everyone know about our musical endeavors. Why else would you make a band blog? Right now we're recording for our second LP, "Why Don't You Whisper?" and stressing about getting everything ready for our SUMMER TOUR! It's the longest tour we've done (6 weeks) and the furthest (cross country!!)! Chances are we'll be driving by a town near you! Calm down though, don't get too excited, we haven't even told you the dates. We'll fill you in about that later.

For now, we'll just introduce ourselves.

First up:
Dan
He plays guitar, bass, and the occasional bells.

Adrianne
She sings, plays guitar, and comes up with ALL THE SONGS. Well, almost all of them. Without her, we would not have such witty lyrics.

Ryan
This ladies' man plays the drums. If you ask him nicely, he might even play guitar!

Carolyn
She sings harmonies, plays saxophone, glockenspiel, melodica, bass, guitar, blah, blah, blah. You name it, she probably had to play it.
